A.

Anti-Static: What does Antistatic mean? It is a technology that is used in many professional hairdryers and hair straighteners. It stops your hair from being fly away and unmanageable. See Tourmaline also.

After Wax: What does After wax mean? It is a cooling cream usually that is applied after a waxing treatment. Generally contains tea tree oil for it's anti-septic and calming qualities.

Aloe Vera: What does Aloe Vera mean? It is a superb hydrator and soothing agent, very beneficial to damaged, dry, sun-exposed skin and hair. It can be found in hair products and skin products due to its many good qualities.

Balmain: What does Balmain mean? They are the UK's favourite hair extension supplier, offering human hair and synthetic hair that can be straightened and styled.

Base Coat: What is a Nail base coat? In the manicure and pedicure world is a preperation coat to help nail polish to adhere/stick to the nail, which helps nail polish and nail colours stay on your nails for longer. A base coat can also contain a treatment for nails, that helps treat brittle or weak nails, whilst the Nail colour sits on top.

Ceramic Plates: What does Ceramic plates mean? They are the most popular type of plates in the hair straightener world, as they have a very smooth non-snagging surface and can take the very high temperatures that straighteners required. The biggest name to start using ceramic plates was GHD with their industry changing GHD hair straightener.

Ceramic Technology: What is Ceramic Technology? Many products in the hair industry, especially on professional products side hair 'Ceramic Technology'. Hair Clippers with ceramic technology usually have ceramic blades, for ultra sharp blades that never need sharpening. Professional Hairdryers generally have a ceramic part in the barrel that heats up whilst the hairdryer is being used. This then helps to keep a steady heat temperature through-out use. 

Cosmetics: What does cosmetics mean? Cosmetics are products that are applied to the human body for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance without affecting the body's structure or natural functions. This can be in the form of Make-up, such as Blushers, Lip Sticks, Foundations, False/Fake Eyelashes, Lip Liners and more.

Concentrator Nozzle: What is a concentrator nozzle? It is a handy attachment that is used to make the airflow of a hairdryer faster, by concentrating the airflow through a smaller gap than the standard width of the barrel of the hairdryer. Ideally used on areas of the hair, or when straightening the hair using a ceramic barrel brush.

Crimper/Crimping Iron: What is a crimping iron? A crimping iron, also known as a hair crimper, is used for a special effect on the hair- crimps. They generally bend and crease the hair in 1cm stages. A very popular alternative to hair curls with curling tongs

Cuticle: What is a cuticle? The Cuticle of a nail is the strip of hardened skin at the base and sides of a fingernail or toenail. The Cuticle of hair is the outer surface of the hair, composed of overlapping scales made of colourless keratin protein. It gives hair luster and shine and also provides some of its strength.

Cortex: What is the Cortex? The cortex is the main structural part of the hair fiber that accounts for most of its size and strength.

Cool Shot: What does Cool shot mean? It is usually a feature found on a consumer/retail hairdryer. When pressed the hairdryer changes from hot/warm air, to cool air. The cool air helps to 'set' your style or hold your style for longer. See also cold shot.

Cold Shot: Whats does a Cold Shot mean? The cold shot feature is essentially the same as 'cool shot' although Cold Shot is for professional hairdryers. You will not find a hairdryer in the shops with a true cold shot. Thats a promise.

Clipper: What are hair clippers? Hair Clippers are designed to cut the bulk of the hair during a hair cut. Attachments can be clipped onto the blade to cut to different lengths. See also Grade Attachment and Hair Trimmers.

Complete Extension: What is a complete hair extension? It is a full width of the head hair extension that adds volume, body and length to the overall look of the hair - usually in one piece/part.

Consumer Product: What is a consumer product? It is a product that is usually found in retails shops for consumers to use, and not in salons for use by professionals in salons. See Professional Products.

Curling Tong: What is a curling tong? It is used to make straight or wavy hair - curly quickly by applying heat. Professional curling tongs generally speed this process up. See Conical WandYou Curl.

Conical Wand: What does conical wand mean? The Babyliss Pro Conical Wand (also known as Babyliss Rebel Wand) was a massive sales hit in the USA, and now in the UK too. They were created for people who wanted an easier to use curling tong with more flexibility - a curling tong that creates amazing results quicker than any other curler on the market.

Colour Accents: What is a colour accent hair extension? Colour Accents are hair extensions or additions that allow you to add a colour, highlight or lowlight to your hair, giving depth & variety or just a slight change of style by using colour.

D.

Depilatory & Depilation: The meaning of Depilatory or Depilation is 'to remove'. This is usually in the sentence 'Depilatory Waxing', and means Hair removal waxing or hair removal. The word depilatory is generally used by the professionals within the beauty industry.

Diffuser: The air that passes through a hairdryer diffuser drys hair while maintaining sculpted, permed or molded styles. The fingers on a diffuser can gently hold hair in place whilst drying, which makes diffusers perfect for permed or naturally wavy hair. Diffusers can also be used to give volume and lift to the hair if used in a circular motion during drying.

Dual Voltage: What is Dual Voltage? Dual Voltage means appliances that are manufactured to work all over the world. European & Austrailian voltage is 230v-240volts, and USA is 110 Volts. Hair Straighteners and hairdryers that are dual voltage will work on either of these voltages. We do not recommend using a UK 230v product on 110v power, as it could ruin your product and could also be very dangerous to your health.

Eggpot Waxing: What does Eggpot mean? Eggpot waxing is a company name, one that manufacturers and designs a completely unique hair removal waxing system - Using new tube waxes. Wax is heated quicker and neater, and is so much easier than ordinary hair removal depilatory waxing systems. They are famous for their 3-in-1 Waxing systems as seen on our website.
