Generally Paraffin wax treatments are used as luxurious spa treatments, and are intended to moisturize and soften the skin, whether it be for hands, feet or for aching joints. The moisturising qualities are far better than just the use of crèmes and lotions. The most popular of all uses for paraffin waxes in salons is for it to be applied to the hands and feet as part of a manicure or pedicure treatment, by deeply moisturising skin and cuticles etc…
Many people confuse paraffin wax with depilatory hair removal wax, they are very different indeed. Paraffin wax is not for hair removal of any kind!
The paraffin wax relaxes muscles and is allowed to deeply penetrate pores promoting hydration of the skin. After a treatment hands, feet and elbows are left supple, revitalized and are left feeling smooth again.
Treatments using warm paraffin wax is long established. In fact, it has been around since the early 1960’s. It is an efficient way of helping to reduce swelling in joints and connective tissue and soothe the pain from arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, sprains, joint stiffness and sports related injuries. The treatment also helps to improve circulation, and not forgetting beauty treatments and manicures. As Paraffin Wax also increases blood circulation it helps with the restoration of skin and improves the skins colour. This treatment also eases stiffness and discomfort of joints that are associated with injury, arthritis, overworked muscles, and other ailments as well as many other things.
Paraffin wax is a much softer wax than most due to the paraffin oil component, due to being a softer wax it has a much lower melting point than standard waxes, not only does this mean that the skin can be submerged in the wax without causing burning or blistering, it also means it gets to the correct temperature much quicker indeed. Standard wax heaters can be used to melt the paraffin, but generally spa’s and professionals use Paraffin wax baths, which have a larger inner area, which enables the beauticians have their clients dip their hands or feet directly into the melted wax in the wax bath.
To get a generous layer of Paraffin wax on the skin, you would need to dip into the paraffin one or more times. You would then wrap the hands or feet in plastic, or some other non-absorbent material and left to “soak” in the layer of wax for up to half an hour. The use of Electric Heated Manicure Mittens or Pedicure Booties help the absorption time and rate, which also helps to provide extra relaxation and warmth to the treatment. Paraffin wax treatments are particularly popular in the winter time as they are warming and also due to adding a great deal of moisture to dry and cracked tired skin. During paraffin wax treatments, the skin is bathed in warmth, which helps the pores to open and the skin to soften. Because of this, the paraffin oil in the paraffin wax can enter the skin to nourish and replenish it wonderfully. The treatments are meant to be relaxing and soothing, so calming oils are often added to the wax in order to add a dimension of aromatherapy to the experience. Once the skin has been allowed to soak in the wax and the layer has hardened, it can be pulled off – nearly in one solid piece. Could you tell me once you have put the wax in the bath and you have just used it on a client with her hands or feet. What do you do with the wax after? Would you get rid of it or can it be reused againe?

Also, can it be applied to any other part of the body besides the hands, feet and elbows?

Hi, It can be used on other parts of the body, ideally on dry skin, or achey joints. Spray paraffin is ideal for this as it can be sprayed onto pretty much any area of skin. (Being careful of eyes, mouth etc…)

Hi, You should really select the correct amount of paraffin wax for the treatment in hand, and should never re-use paraffin wax on another client due to hygiene reasons. Spray Paraffin waxes are ideal in this case, as it has next to no waste and is very hygienic.
